Audit Trail Report

What is the Audit Trail report?
Purpose: To help you understand how to use the Audit Trail report and what kind of data changes are tracked in the report.

Audit trail overview
The Audit Trail report is a standard report in BambooHR, accessible under the Data Review section of the Standard Reports tab. It is only viewable to the Account Owner and Full Admin level users and is not shareable or exportable.
The Audit Trail report tracks who made a change to specific data in the system and when, making it a key resource for ensuring the accuracy of your data. Entries are added immediately when data is created, updated, or deleted for the tracked fields and actions. You can review and monitor changes made up to the past 13 months.
The following information is included in this report:
- Who changed critical data
- When changes occurred
- What information changed
- Which employee’s data was changed/approved
- Which employee approved data changes
- Who has logged in recently
With the ability to know who is adding, modifying, or deleting information within the parameters of their access level settings, you can have confidence in the accuracy of your data and the ability to review and account for changes.
Important notes
- For security purposes, the Audit Trail report includes the IP address of the user who made the change.
- This report is only viewable to the Account Owner and Full Admin level users and is not shareable or exportable.
Audit trail filters

When viewing the Audit Trail report, you can use filters in the left sidebar to narrow down the data changes to review.
- Date range: Specify a date range to view what changes have happened between the selected dates.
- People: Enter the name(s) of an employee to find any data changes in their data, as well as any changes the employee have made to other data.
- Actions & items: Determine which types of changes you want to view: Edited, Added, and/or Deleted. After selecting an action, you can choose what you would like to see within that action. Employee Record, Files, Reports, Settings, and/or Timesheets.
- Approvals: If you need to review approvals, you will have the option to view approvals pertaining to employee updates, time off requests, and/or timesheets.
- Account access: Clicking Logins in this section will filter the report to display your account's login history, enabling you to review which users have or have not logged into their accounts.
- Reset report: If you need to clear out filters, simply click Reset. This will update the Audit Trail report to show all recent data changes in a timeline.
Data changes tracked in Audit Trail
To make sure the Audit Trail report is as efficient as possible, we do not track access level changes in Audit Trail. Instead, you can view access level changes in Access Level History. Below are some exceptions.

When access to BambooHR is granted for the first time, you will see a line similar to the image above in the Audit Trail.

If a user is changed to "No Access," you will see a line similar to the image above in the Audit Trail. If a user is moved from one access level to a new access level, the change will not show in the Audit Trail.
Time Off, Time Tracking, and employee update approvals (see below) are all tracked in the Audit Trail report.
When an employee submits an update to personal information, which is then approved according to information update settings or if someone approves a custom update, a new line will show in the report. Simply click View Changes to view details of what was updated.
All changes to custom fields are tracked in the Audit Trail report.

In the Audit Trail report, you can find information about employee logins and password changes.

Changes made to the Direct Deposit table or any of the fields in the Tax section will appear in the audit trail (except for the "Go Paperless and get my tax documents exclusively online" option). However, deductions will not be tracked.

When goals are added, edited, or deleted, a new line will show in the audit trail. Simply click View Performance to view the details about the new goal. If a goal was edited, there will be an option to show changes so you can see what was edited.
Data changes in peer feedback and assessments will not show in the Audit Trail report.
The report will show any additions or edits of time off categories and policies.

Hours added: This will appear any time hours are added to an employee's timesheet. If the employee used the time clock to enter hours, it will show as "[Employee] added clock out time..." If a user besides the employee entered time on the employee's timesheet, it will specify who added the time.
Simply click to Show Changes or Hide Changes or view the details on the employee's timesheet.

Hours edited: This will appear any time hours are edited on an employee's timesheet. The previous time entered and the new time entered will show in the details. If a user besides the employee edits the hours, it will specify who edited the time.
Simply click to Show Changes or Hide Changes or view the details on the employee's timesheet.

Time Tracking Enabled/Disabled: This will appear any time a user is enabled (see screenshot) or disabled from BambooHR's Time Tracking feature. It will indicate who enabled or disabled Time Tracking for the employee.
