Prebuilt dashboards
Prebuilt dashboards are developed by our team at BambooHR, providing a comprehensive overview of specific datasets at your company. The following options will appear once you open a prebuilt dashboard from the Manage Dashboards page.
- File menu: Duplicate, download, or analyze the dashboard you are currently viewing
- View menu: Refresh data for an updated view of the dashboard or reset default filters
- Analyze: Brings up a copy of the dashboard you can modify and save to a different dashboard
The option to delete a prebuilt dashboard is not available.
Custom dashboards
Settings included in the toolbar at the top of a custom dashboard apply to the full dashboard experience from the admin perspective.
- File menu: Edit, duplicate, download, or analyze the dashboard you are currently viewing
- View menu: Refresh the dashboard for the latest data or reset default filters
- Edit: Takes you to the edit version of the dashboard to make any necessary changes (filters, controls, etc.)
- Workbook: Switches the dashboard to the workbook view, providing closer look at individual data visualizations (no editing capabilities)
Edit a custom dashboard
Changes are autosaved when editing a dashboard.
Once you click Edit in the top right corner of a dashboard, the top banner will indicate that the dashboard is in a draft version. Also included is the timestamp of when the dashboard was last auto-saved. If you need to rename the dashboard, navigate to File and select Rename.
If you need to exit the draft, simply confirm the timestamp of when your changes were most recently saved and then click Leave draft in the top right corner of the dashboard.
The top toolbar includes a few settings you can use to make your dashboard changes.
- Charts: Filter the dashboard's data by selecting or deselecting the listed data visualizations.
-
Add filter: Use this option if you want to add a new filter to one or more data visualizations.
- This option will also allow you to add/remove a filter from a visualization by enabling or disabling it in the top right corner of the visualization.
- Add control: Here, you can swap out a field for another within the data visualizations on a dashboard, such as timeframes, dimensions, measures, etc. There are four control types to choose from: Time, Field, Parent, and Period over Period.
- Add text tile: This option allows you to use markdown syntax for styling, images, and links, making the dashboard more dynamic.
If a dashboard has filters applied, you can choose to hide a filter, but it will still be applied in the background. Hiding dashboard filters will not restrict access to sensitive data. Instead, we recommend using access level settings to determine who should and should not have access to data in your company's dashboards.
To edit visualization content, hover your cursor over it and select the three-dot icon in the top right corner. Choose Edit in workbook. Another option is clicking Workbook in the top right corner.
The Hide Chart option for a workbook will keep the underlying data within the dashboard but remove it from the user's view.
After making changes, click Publish in the top right corner to update the dashboard view.
