Which reports in BambooHR include the benchmarking feature, and how do I utilize it?
Purpose: To provide an overview of the benchmarking feature that will help admins make data-driven decisions on how to maintain or improve a specific area at their company, saving time and money.
Table of Contents
While the benchmarking feature is mostly specific to the Elite package, our Employee Turnover report still offers Core and Pro admins the option to enable benchmarking data regarding employee turnover at their company.
Elite EA features are only accessible to Full Admins and Account Owners.
The following reports have the benchmarking feature, which you can use to understand if trends at your company are typical of companies in the same industry and size as yours. By adding benchmark filters, you can evaluate any differences and determine if changes are needed for improvement.
- Age Profile report
- Gender Profile report
- Employee Turnover report
- The Employee Turnover report has an additional filter (Elite package only) you can use to narrow down the results by turnover type: Total Turnover, Voluntary, Regrettable, Non-regrettable, and Involuntary.
- eNPS report
- Years of Service report
With “Show benchmark” toggled on,* a dialog box will appear at the right of your screen. (You can also click on the gear icon next to "Show benchmark.") Depending on where your company is based, you will have two options to view a comparison in data between your company and peer companies: AI Benchmark Group and Custom Benchmark Group. Please review the following sections to learn more about each option and how to use it.
Each report will show a bar chart with the green bar representing a count and percentage of employees who fall into each subject (age, gender, etc.) group at your company, and the gray bar will show a percentage of employees from peer companies for each subject group.
*The report will not show benchmarks if you have applied standard filters to the report (e.g., Department, Division, etc.). Once you remove the standard filters, the “Show benchmark” toggle will be available again.
AI-generated benchmark group
This AI option is only available to companies based in the United States. If your company is international-based, you can utilize the Custom Benchmark Group option.

For this option, we use AI to look at all of our customers and group them by similar characteristics like company size, industry, and similar labor markets (based on your company location).
Once you select AI Benchmark Group, the system will use a weighted average of each of these characteristics to automatically create a peer group of companies similar to your company based on each of these three attributes. There will always be at least five companies included in the peer group.
Have questions about our AI features? Please review AI Security & Compliance FAQ or reach out to our Customer Support team.
Custom benchmark group

All of our customers are associated with a specific industry, and we track the number of employees each company has in BambooHR. Using the Custom Benchmark Group option allows you to set benchmarking filters tailored to your company.
- Company Size: Use the slider to select the company size range you want to compare your company against.
- Industry: When you select a specific industry, all companies within that industry are included in the peer group. If you select multiple industries, the peer group will include all companies that are assigned to one of those industries.
Once you select Apply, the system will automatically update the report based on the benchmarking filters you have chosen, displaying data from peer companies that meet the selected criteria.
If you select filters that limit the size to less than five customers, BambooHR will not return any results in order to protect the anonymity of our customers.
