Getting the Most Out of BambooHR through Reporting

Purpose: This guide will take you through some of the best standard reports in BambooHR, designed to help you be more strategic. We will discuss some of the essentials required to create custom reports.

Before BambooHR, reporting was one of the most daunting and time-consuming tasks for HR. If you dared to tackle reporting, you probably spent endless hours creating and then refining your reports for presentation. In BambooHR, reporting is different. We have so many standard reports created for you, and you have the Insights dashboard on Home to help keep track of your favorite reports.

Now that you are becoming a BambooHR pro, we want to show you a few reports that will help you work more efficiently and give you additional insights into your data.

Missing Data

To have accurate reporting, you need to have accurate data. The Missing Data report shows you a list of which fields are blank and for which employees. You can mark specific fields as Important or Not Important, making it easy to keep the most important fields updated for your organization. The best part of the report is power edit, which you can use to update the missing information for all employees in the list. Taking your time in ensuring the completeness of your employees’ data will help you have the confidence that your reporting is accurate and effective.


Point-in-Time

Do you ever wish you could see where multiple employees were in the company on a specific date? The Point-in-Time report meets that wish by providing a snapshot of employee data as of a given date. Editing this report allows you to pull any historical table data, including custom tables with date fields, and the report shows employee information as of the date selected. When your boss asks you for a list of employees' job titles and compensation as of January 1st of this year, last year, or three years ago, you can deliver that information within minutes.


Headcount

Headcount

The Headcount report shows you the total headcount of your employees and how it has changed over time. You can select a date and see the headcount changes month by month throughout the year. Using the filters in this report helps you discover more information. If you see a spike in your headcount, you can use the filters to learn about the sudden change. Was it a specific department that grew, or was that the quarter when you opened a new location? You can apply the same analysis to a drop in your headcount. If you have accurately terminated your employees in BambooHR, you can use the filters to see trending causes of termination to improve your retention rate. This report encourages strategic HR work, where you can view data through different lenses, better understand why changes happen and what you can do to prepare for them, and learn how to prevent the negative changes from happening again. 


Employee Turnover

Employee Turnover

HR is not the only department tracking turnover. It is a significant metric for nearly any company. Executives understand that turnover is expensive, and excessive turnover may indicate deeper issues at their company. Using the Employee Turnover report, you can easily share the data executives need to see for an overall picture of turnover, along with the ability to research deeper and discover specific areas that need improvement.


Time Off Balances

Time Off Balances

Getting a comprehensive view of time off information within your company can be difficult. The Time Off Balances report helps you gain this perspective in viewing detailed time off information during a specific time frame, including beginning balances, accrued time off, used time off, scheduled time off, adjustments, and ending balances. You can include unapproved time off in the report to view future projections and ensure you will have enough employees around during the holidays.


Signed Documents

Reports

If you use our e-signatures feature, you should use the Signed Documents report. This report makes it easy for you to see what documents still need to be signed and send reminders to employees. You can quickly view the status of each signature request and request additional signatures within a specific template. This report allows you to manage all your electronic signatures in one place.


Custom reports

We understand that our standard reports cannot cover every possible situation, and as a result, we have made custom reporting available.

Reports

When creating a custom report,* you can pull the data you need within seconds. Once you run a report, you can use the different actions available to find the information you are looking for and get it to the right people before the deadline. You can use Export-o-matic to prepare the data in BambooHR for easy importing into another system.

The Account Owner and Full Admin user(s) can easily manage reports and keep them organized by creating and sharing specific report folders.

This guide is a basic overview of reporting in BambooHR. Using standard reports can make your job easier and help you prove your strategic value (and that is not counting the many different configurations of custom reporting).
