ICalendar feeds are available in Core, Pro, and Elite packages.

FAQs

Expand or collapse content How can I add iCals to our company's Google Calendar?

You can't add the iCal to a company's Google Calendar for everyone else to see. This is because the system ties each feed to the employee's individual access. Each employee who wants to can upload the calendar feed link to their own Google Calendar.

Expand or collapse content Does the iCal show only one year ahead of time?

That depends on which calendar app you use. Each app shows only a certain amount of forward and backward history, and this varies from app to app. For example, Google may only show one month in the past and only 4 months in the future, but another company may show more or less. Google Calendar also only shows data from yesterday, and anything before that is removed, but other apps may keep more or all of that data. It just depends on how that Calendar chooses to display the feed.

Expand or collapse content How can I pull all holidays into my iCal feed when I am not included in them?

If you want to see holidays that do not apply to you, you can create a non-employee user and include them in the holiday. Then, log in as the non-employee user, copy the iCal feed from that account, and then use it in your calendar. This will allow you to see all holidays, even if you are filtered out of them. The user can also send the same link to other users who may need that information as well.

Troubleshooting Tips

Expand or collapse content I use Outlook, and the iCal feed is not working for me.

If you are using Outlook, you will need to change your iCal URL to begin with webcals://

Example

Rather than:

https://helpcontentdemo.bamboohr.com/feeds/feed.php?id=0c7d56d868f5c5a49c60c6d1829e594c

You would have:

webcals://helpcontentdemo.bamboohr.com/feeds/feed.php?id=0c7d56d868f5c5a49c60c6d1829e594c

Outlook also only pings data from our iCal feeds once when you add the feed link, not again after that. BambooHR doesn't push data through the feed. To keep the data up to date, you may need to update the iCal feed link in Outlook regularly.

Google Calendar automatically pings the feed link regularly, about every 24 hours. It does not require a manual update.

Expand or collapse content A time off request is not syncing to my calendar with the iCal feed.

First, check to see if the Who's Out calendar is filtered. Those filters carry into the feed. If the time off request is included, then it may just be that the calendar sync hasn't updated yet. Some calendars may take time to update (for example, Google only checks for updates every few hours). We recommend you wait and watch for the update, or you can generate a new iCal link in BambooHR and add it to your calendar to refresh the feed.

Expand or collapse content The Time Off Category isn't coming through the iCal feed to my calendar?

An employee who uses the iCal feed for "Who's Out" will only see the name of the category if their access level allows them to see it based on the Time Off category setup or their access level. If you uncheck the box to show the name of the category on the calendar in Settings, but a manager has access to see the time off categories for their direct reports, then the manager will see the name of the category that syncs through the iCal feed for their direct reports.
