Active vs. Inactive Status

What is the Status field used for?

Purpose: To help you understand what the Status field is and how to effectively use it.


The Status field on the Personal tab defines whether an employee is an active employee with your company, or inactive, which means that they are no longer employed.


Active

Active employees:

  • Appear in all employee list fields.
  • Are available in the power edit tool (Advantage, Core, and Pro packages).
  • Can access the system.
  • Show up in reports by default.
  • Can accrue time off.
  • Can receive email alerts.

Inactive

Inactive employees:

  • Are not available in the power edit tool (Advantage, Core, and Pro packages).
  • Cannot access the system.
  • Cannot accrue time off.
  • Do not appear in the employee list fields.
  • Can get pulled into reports if the filter within the report sets to All or Inactive.

When an employee leaves your company, it is important to terminate them in BambooHR and have the termination adequately reflected in reporting.


View active or inactive employees

When viewing the employee list, you can select to show active, inactive, or all employees.
