FAQs

Expand or collapse content Do employees need a hire date to appear on the org chart?

An employee must have a hire date, an active employment status date, and either a manager who is active in the 'Reports to' field or direct reports (such as a CEO) to show up in the org chart.

Expand or collapse content What happens to the org chart when a manager is terminated?

If a manager is terminated but still has employees reporting to them, the manager will no longer appear on the org chart. Their reports will appear on the org chart, but under the "List Employees Without a Manager" section.

Expand or collapse content What determines when an employee is included in the org chart and company directory?

They are both based on the hire date and the employment status date, in addition to whether the person reports to someone and/or has people reporting to them.

Expand or collapse content Can we choose how the names display in our directory?

The directory has been designed to display names as 'Preferred Name Last Name', even if another option has been selected in the General Settings.

Expand or collapse content Is there a way to export the org chart in landscape format?

There is not. After you export the chart, you can switch that formatting if needed. Click here for more information on exporting the org chart.

Why am I getting the "Who's in charge here?" error?

There are a few reasons why this error may come up. The most common is that whoever is at the top of your org chart is set to report to themselves. Go to that employee's profile and edit their Job Information table on the Job tab so the "Reports To" field is blank. If it is set to themselves or another user, it causes the system to go in a circle as it isn't sure who should be listed at the top.

If that is not the issue, it could be because there is something else amiss with the top level user's profile. Please make sure that they are active, have a Hire Date, and that their Employment Status table is filled in.

Can I move people in the org chart?

The order of the org chart is determined by two things:

  1. The "Reports To" field in the Job Information table, which determines the vertical structure.
  2. The alphabetical order of employees' last names, which determines the horizontal structure. Besides changing who an employee reports to, there is no way to change where they appear on the org chart.

Troubleshooting Tips

Expand or collapse content I have the org chart enabled, but I can't see it on the 'People' tab.

In the company directory settings, set the org chart to "Off" and save. Then set the org chart to "On," and save. Sometimes that enabling does not save as expected, so disabling and then re-enabling should resolve the issue.

Expand or collapse content Why do some employees have time zones visible in the directory or their employee profile, while others do not?

If an employee's time zone does not show in the directory or their employee profile, it is because they have a remote location (so their work location has no time zone) and they have not selected a time zone for themselves under their Account Settings.

If they need to set one, they can select their profile icon > Account Settings > [Select their timezone] > Save.

Once they select a time zone for themselves under their account settings, it will become visible in their profile and the company directory. Keep in mind that if the person viewing the profile is in the same time zone, the local time will not display. If the person viewing the profile is in a different time zone, then the local time will show.

Expand or collapse content I removed a specific custom access level from the list of accesses that can see the org chart and directory, but the users in that level can still see it.

Check the custom access levels "See About Themselves" Tab. Likely, they gave that level employee access. Since that level's users are also in the employee level, they would be granted access to the directory and org chart.

The best way to resolve this is to duplicate the employee access level and exclude the duplicate level and the custom level from the org chart and directory.
