Activating the Onboarding or Offboarding Process
How do I activate the onboarding or offboarding process for an employee?
Purpose: Whether you hire a new employee or an employee leaves your company, there is typically a long list of items that need to be completed for the employee. This help guide will show you how to start the onboarding or offboarding process for an employee on their employee profile.

Onboarding tab
If you have not added the new employee to your account yet, you will want to follow the steps in this help guide to start the onboarding process for the employee. If you already added the employee to your account, you can choose from the following options to activate the employee's Onboarding tab:
- Create New Hire Packet: If the employee's hire date is in the future or the past fourteen days, you will see the option to create a New Hire Packet. For a new employee, the New Hire Packet typically includes information on when and where to be on their first day, basic personal information to fill in, Get to Know You questions, and onboarding tasks to complete before their first day. If you create a New Hire Packet, you would not need to import onboarding tasks from the template (see #2).
- Import From Template: If the employee got hired more than fourteen days ago or you do not want to send them a New Hire Packet, you can import all onboarding tasks in your onboarding template that apply to the employee. Additionally, you have the option to add an employee-specific task.
Tasks added to the new hire packet will be completed through email, no access needed. Tasks imported directly to the onboarding tab (not added to the new hire packet) will be completed through the employee's BambooHR inbox after they are granted access to log in.

Offboarding Tab
To activate an employee's Offboarding tab, you can choose from the following options:
- To add all items from the template which are applicable to the employee, click the "Import From Template" button.
- To add new tasks that are specific to the employee, select "Add a Task".
Enter Expected Termination Date
For Offboarding, if the employee has not yet been terminated or resigned, you will be asked to enter an Expected Termination Date. The date entered at this time will be used for determining due dates of any applicable template items. If the end of employment is for a future date, that date will automatically populate for the offboarding tasks.
If tasklist items have filters requiring the completion of specific fields, you will receive a prompt to fill out those fields before copying the template.
