Frequently asked questions about Time Tracking

Purpose: To give you answers to the most frequently asked questions about BambooHR's time tracking feature.

Features & functionality

Can a customer have some employees set up to use Total Hours Worked and others on Start & End Times?

  • Yes! By creating different time tracking groups, the customer can assign employees to different time-logging settings.

Is there an option to set up multiple approvers for approving hours?

  • No, there is only one approver. Customers can choose the employee’s manager as the approver or a specific person in the company.

Is there an Edit with Approval when employees go back and edit hours?

  • No, the two permissions options available for employees are 1) View Only or 2) Edit.

Can Full Admins and custom access levels approve hours when someone is on vacation?

  • Yes, Full Admins always have permission to approve hours. As long as a custom access level has permission given to approve, they will also have this ability.

Do timesheets lock after a pay period ends?

  • No. Employees can edit hours on a timesheet for a pay period until the approval of the timesheet. After the timesheet is approved, only admins can edit the hours on the timesheet.

Is paid time off pulled into an employee’s timesheet automatically?

  • Any time off an employee has requested will show up on the right side of an employee’s timesheet to help employees and managers remember the hours requested off for that day. However, it does not auto-populate the time entry box because there will be scenarios when the employee takes time off but still works the same day (i.e., worked four hours in the morning but took four hours off in the afternoon). Only the time off categories set as paid time off categories will pull over into the employee's timesheet.

Are there any exceptions to waiting until the next pay period for changes in time tracking methods?

  • As long as an employee's timesheet is empty when you switch between time tracking methods, it should update for that employee. You do not have to wait for the next pay period to see the change.
Regulations

Is BambooHR Time Tracking compliant with the Department of Labor (DOL) standards?
