How do I update Account Settings?
Purpose: To teach you how to update Account Settings.
Account Settings
To update Account Settings, click on your photo avatar in the bottom left corner and follow the steps shown above.
- Timezone: By default, your timezone sets to the timezone tied to the account as determined by an administrator in Settings. Once you have a location set in the Job Information table on your employee profile, your timezone aligns with that location. If you are assigned to a remote location, you have the option to update your timezone. See below to see where the time zone will show to others.
- Language: Language automatically sets to Use Browser Default, but you can change this setting to one of our supported languages.
- Birthday: Sharing your birthday lets your coworkers celebrate with you! Your birthday will automatically show in the calendar, iCal feeds, Celebrations widget, mobile app, and you will receive the birthday email alert. If you toggle this setting off, your birthday will not show within any of the options listed above. However, it will still appear on your employee profile for those who can access this specific information through access levels.
Be sure to click Save Settings once you finish making your changes.
Employees are responsible for updating their own account settings. An administrator cannot edit settings like timezone, language, or birthday-sharing on behalf of another employee.
The employee's local time will generate depending on their location. If they are in an in-office location, the local time will generate based on the time zone set for that location. If they are in a remote location, they will need to set their time zone here in Account Settings for their local time to generate. The local time will generate in three places in the account:
Company Directory
The local time in the Directory will only show when you are hovering over a specific employee.

If an employee who does not have access to view employee profiles clicks on the name of an employee in the directory, a modal will appear with the same directory information and a bigger picture. They will be able to see the local time zone here as well.
If you are using BambooHR Time Tracking, your timezone depends on the location you're assigned to on your Job Information table. If you are assigned to an in-person office location with an address, your timesheet will automatically sync with that timezone and no additional action is needed. If your location is marked as "remote" you must determine your own timezone in Account Settings. Timesheet approval windows are based on the company timezone.
As a manager, admin, or timesheet approver, you'll see an employee's hours in the timezone of their assigned office location, or in the timezone a remote employee determines in their settings.
For example, if you're in the Pacific Time Zone and an employee clocks in at 8 a.m. Eastern Time, their timesheet will show 8 a.m., not the corresponding 5 a.m. PST. Please keep in mind, if a remote employee has not determined their own timezone in Settings, their timezone will default to the one determined in Company Settings. We recommend creating an onboarding task for new hires to set their timezone and determine other Account Settings in BambooHR.
Did you know the BambooHR mobile app has a dark mode? If you use iOS, the BambooHR mobile app will follow your current device's display and brightness settings. Currently, dark mode is not available for the web version of BambooHR.
