How do I create a new password?

Purpose: You can create a new password at any time as long as you have access to your email address. If you need additional help, an administrator can send you a link to set up a new password. This help guide will show you both processes.


BambooHR requires you to log in with an email address and password unless an administrator enabled a single sign-on integration for your BambooHR account. When you have access to log in to BambooHR, you will receive an email with a link to create a password and log in to BambooHR. If you have forgotten your password, there are two ways to obtain a new one. 


Send a password reset email to yourself as an employee

Go to your BambooHR URL and click Forgot Password? above the Log In button.

Enter your email address and click Send Email to generate the password reset email notification.


Receive a password reset email from an administrator

An administrator or certain users with access can send you an email with a link to set up a new password. They can easily do this by going to your employee profile, clicking on the gear icon, and then selecting Reset User's Password. You will receive an email with a link for setting up a new password.

An administrator can also send a password reset email from the dropdown menu in Settings > Access Levels when assigning an employee to an access level.

For administrators: 

  • If the employee did not receive the first email to set up a password when you enabled their access to BambooHR, it is a good idea to check their email address and make sure it is correct before sending them a new password reset email. 
  • If you have many employees, you may consider assigning custom access to a user to allow them to reset a user's password.

Password Reset email

From within the email notification, click Reset Your Password.

Please note that the Reset Password link is only active for 24 hours. After 24 hours, it becomes deactivated. A user can generate a new link at any time by following the same steps above or clicking Request a New Link in the email notification.

Enter a new password and click Reset Password. Once you click Reset Password, the system will automatically log you in to BambooHR. If you enter a new password and get an error message, that means you are currently using the password.


How do I change my password?

You can change your password by clicking on your profile photo in the top right corner and selecting Change My Password.

You will receive a prompt to enter your current password and a new password. Click Save. You will need to use your new password the next time you log in to your account.
