Complete the Manager Assessment as a Manager
How do I complete a manager assessment for an employee?
Purpose: To show you how you can complete a manager assessment for the employees who directly report to you (direct reports).
Manager assessment
You can submit a manager assessment on the BambooHR mobile app. Click here to learn more!
Access settings for manager and self assessments: Once you submit the manager assessment for an employee/direct report, they can view your answers to the free-text questions (but not the first two questions) as long as they have completed their self assessment.
To view your employee's completed self assessment, you will need to complete the manager assessment first.
Thirty days before an assessment review period ends, you will receive an email notification to complete the manager assessment for your direct reports. You can access the manager assessment from within the email notification or navigate to the employee's Performance tab on their employee profile.
On the Assessments subtab, you will be able to review the assessment questions and submit your responses. Once submitted, the employee will receive an email notification.
If you schedule a future publish date for the manager assessment, the employee will receive an email notification on the publish date.
1. If [employee] got a job offer elsewhere, I would...
- Do everything I could to keep [employee]. We'd be in trouble.
- Convince [employee] to stay. [Employee] would be difficult to replace.
- Need to think about it. [Employee] does a decent job.
- Wish [Employee] well. I'll be able to find a better replacement pretty easily.
- Be relieved. It's not likely to work out anyway.
2. How engaged is [employee] at work?
- High engagement and a great attitude.
- Good engagement and a mostly positive attitude.
- Medium engagement and an okay attitude.
- Low engagement and is burned out.
- No engagement and is checked out.
Submitting the assessment
If you are not ready to submit the assessment for the employee to view, you can choose a future date for submitting the assessment. You can select a date up to a month out from the completion date. This option helps you and other managers ensure feedback is provided during a face-to-face conversation so that the employee has the kind of experience that makes their organization exceptional.
After selecting the date, click Submit Assessment to publish the assessment at 12 AM (company time zone) on the date selected.
Once you complete a manager assessment, a Full Admin user can unlock the assessment when needed.
Once an assessment (self and manager) is complete, you and the employee cannot make any changes to the assessment. If changes are needed, a Full Admin user can unlock the assessment for you or the employee to make changes.
The Full Admin user can do this by going to the employee's Performance tab and selecting Assessments. Clicking Unlock Assessment will immediately unlock the assessment.
With both assessments completed, you will see an option to add a follow-up note regarding the assessments. To add a note, hover your cursor over the Follow-Up Notes section and click Edit. This option encourages you and other managers to discuss responses on the assessments with the employee and record the interaction as a reminder to follow up with them again. Only one note is available to the manager during each assessment period. You can edit a note, but there will be no history of revisions.
Please note that the employee can view follow-up notes.
You can easily view past assessments by changing the review period in the top right corner of the Assessments subtab.
