How does Google Single Sign-On integrate with BambooHR?

Purpose: To help you understand how you can integrate Google Single Sign-On with BambooHR.


To ensure a successful login, please ensure the emails in BambooHR match those in Google SSO. Otherwise, no one will be able to login.

How do I install Google Single Sign-On in BambooHR?
Apps Settings

Once in BambooHR, navigate to Settings and select Apps. Find Google and click Install.

Click Install. Once installed, all users in your account can immediately log in to BambooHR via their Google authentication details.

You will also see the option to "allow optional email & password login." This will give employees the option to log in through [OneLogin/Microsoft/SAML/etc] or type in their email and password. Please note that while this is an option, we recommend leaving this unchecked as installing a single sign-on option will disable the 2-Step Login in BambooHR.

The option of making SSO an optional authentication choice while still allowing username/password authentication gives our customers who are primarily looking to simplify the login experience more flexibility in how they configure and use the SSO integration. For customers whose requirements focus on enhanced security, it is recommended that they use the SSO-only option for maximum security. Authentication security will always only be as strong as the weakest option permitted.

Please note that if an employee logs in to an older version of the mobile app, they may still see an option to log in with an email and password (even if it is off). Once they enter their credentials, they will see an error message since this is disabled in your account. To resolve this error, the employee needs to update their BambooHR mobile app to the latest version in the App Store.

How do I log in with Google?

To log in with Google, you will need to log in to your Google Mail account. Go to your BambooHR URL and click Log in with Google. If you do not allow your employees to log in with an email and password, they will not see that option on the login screen.

Please note that Google Single Sign-On extends to the BambooHR mobile app so that users can log in to the app by using single sign-on through Google.
