An overview from BambooHR® Marketplace:
For many companies, Slack is the collaboration hub that connects employees to the people and tools they work with every day. We are excited to announce that we have created our own BambooHR app for Slack. Now your employees can start using BambooHR’s most popular features such as planning time off and looking up co-workers without leaving Slack.
Lookup an Employee
Need to know the new team member’s email address? Or remember which department Sarah is in? Looking up employee information is easy – just ask the BambooHR app in Slack, “Who is Sarah?” and it will return all the information from the employee directory for Sarah.
Time Off Balances and Requests
Planning a trip? We have you covered. The BambooHR app for Slack will also calculate time off balances for future dates. Now that you’ve calculated your time off balance, you’re ready to submit your request. Through Slack, you’ll be able to select the type of Time Off, see the total amount of time used, and easily submit a new Time Off Request.
See Who’s Out
Have you ever had to contact a team member in a different department? If you have, you most likely have asked yourself ‘Are they working today?’. With BambooHR’s Slack integration you can now look up who’s out of the office and even filter results by department, location, or division.
Manager and Approver Notifications
In addition to being able to use any of the available time off commands, managers and approvers will also receive notifications in Slack from the BambooHR app when there are new Time Off Requests or Timesheets that need approval.

This is a two-step install process that will require action from two roles within the organization: a BambooHR Full Admin, and a Slack Workspace Admin.
These steps are also outlined in the installation modal for the Slack app found in your BambooHR account by navigating to Settings > Apps > and clicking Install next to the Slack app.
Step 1: Install in Slack Workspace
First, the BambooHR app will need to be installed in Slack by your Slack Workspace Admin. This can be done by navigating here then clicking Add to Slack. The Slack Workspace Admin user will then be asked to authorize the BambooHR app’s access to the Slack Workspace by clicking Allow. The Slack Workspace Admin user will then be directed to log in to their BambooHR account to complete the authentication and connection of their Slack Workspace to their BambooHR account.
Upon successful login and authentication, the Slack Workspace Admin will be redirected back to their Slack Workspace where they should see the following new message from the BambooHR app:
At this point the Slack Workspace Admin has completed their part of the installation. The next step is for the Full Admin user in BambooHR.
Step 2: Install in BambooHR
The Full Admin user in BambooHR can now navigate back to the Slack app’s installation modal in their BambooHR account by going to Settings > Apps > then clicking Install next to the Slack app.
Once Step 1 is completed, the Install button will be active.* The BambooHR Full Admin user must click Install in order to authorize the app and complete the installation. Upon clicking, you'll see a message saying “Slack was installed successfully.”
*You may need to refresh your page if the Install button is still not active after Step 1 is completed.
The app will now automatically begin to match users in BambooHR with users in the connected Slack Workspace. All matched users will automatically have the BambooHR app installed in Slack, and will receive the following welcome message:
