You must set up training settings in BambooHR before recording completions for your employees. To set up a new training, navigate to Training in Settings and click + New Training.

Details of the new training

New Training

Enter the training details:

  1. Training Name
  2. Description
  3. Link (URL): If there is a related website, you can provide the URL here.
  4. Allow employees to mark complete: Check this box to allow assigned employees to mark this training complete. Keep in mind you will also need to make this training viewable in their access level settings.
  5. Category (Optional): Allows for easy sorting on the Training tab and in Training settings. You can also use a category as a filtering option in custom training reports.
  6. Frequency: One-time or renewing. If you want to choose Renewing, determine how often the renewal should occur. If the training expires at the end of the month in a month that does not have the same number of days as the renewing month, the system will automatically place the expiration date on the last day of the month. (For example, if the training was renewed September 30 and needs to be renewed in five months, it would place the expiration date at February 28.)
  7. Attach File(s): If the training has any associated PDF or other attachments, add those here. (Uploading signature templates as files is not available when adding a training.)
  8. This training is required for: If you require the training, a filter and due date option will appear. Please note that the due date can only be based on the employee's hire date.
  9. Click Save.

Only required training will show up in the Upcoming Training table and the My Training widget.

If you filter trainings, remember that there may be two different filter types depending on when you created the training. Any trainings created before 1/2/2024 will appear for employees meeting ANY of the filtered criteria. Any trainings created after 1/2/2024 will appear for employees meeting the full criteria (for example, only employees in the Marketing Department who are also in the US location.) If you would like to update an old training to the new filter option, you will need to delete it and create a new training.

In the example above, I have changed the due date to 30 days after the hire date instead of 14 days.

Example

Once you save your changes, they will immediately take effect for your employees.

Delete a training

Once you click the trash can icon, you will see a pop-up box to confirm the deletion. Click Delete This Training.

This box will outline how many employees will be affected if you delete this training. Once you confirm the deletion, the training and all its associated data (history included) will also delete.

Please note that deletion of data is a permanent action, and you cannot reverse it.

Training tab

Charlotte Abbot - Training

Once you set up the training in Settings, it will be available for recording completions on the employee profile.

In the example above, please note that this training is required. Therefore, it will show in the Upcoming Training table for the applicable employees. Additionally, the training is due 30 days after the hire date, which is why a due date automatically adds to this training.

If a training is not required, it will not show up in the Upcoming Training table. Instead, it will be available as a list option when recording training for an employee.

Please note that dates shown in orange indicate an expired or past due training. Dates in gray indicate upcoming or recurring training.
