Occupational Classification for Indiana Tax Reporting - (6/14/2019)

NOTE: This update only applies to companies with employees whose work location is listed as Indiana.

Indiana recently made a tax reporting update that requires companies to collect an occupational classification for each one of their Indiana-based employees. To help capture this information, new fields were added to BambooHR and TRAXPayroll where Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) Codes can be identified. It is important to update this information for all of your Indiana-based employees by Wednesday June 26, 2019 so that we can correctly report on your behalf for this quarter. Instructions on where to find these fields and how to update them are included below.

Here is how to do this in BambooHR:

If you are using the BambooHR integration, you will want to make this update on the employee's profile in BambooHR.

  1. Navigate to the "Pay Info" tab on the employee's profile.
  2. Select the Taxes tab.
  3. Scroll down to the State Unemployment Insurance section.
  4. For employees who work in Indiana (these are the only employees who need this update): If the Location field shows "State: IN" to the right, then you will see additional options below for "Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) Code". Choose from Category and then Occupation something that best matches the employee's job role. (See screenshot)
  5. Save the changes.
  6. Repeat this update for each employee who works in Indiana.

Here is how to do this in TRAXPayroll:

If you are not using the BambooHR integration OR you do not see this option in BambooHR, you will want to make this update on the employee's record in TRAXPayroll.

  1. Navigate to the "Tax" tab on the Employee's record.
  2. Click on the "Edit" button in the upper left of the page.
  3. Find the State Unemployment Insurance section.
