Importing Services

Purpose: BambooHR offers assistance with importing data into your account. There are two options to add information to your account, the self-service importing tool or a paid BambooHR service.

Overview

Our project associates can import employee data, time off requests, benefit and dependent data, and more. You can add new employees or modify existing ones in your account.

Customers interested in this service will receive blank data templates to complete. Upload the completed templates to your BambooHR Files Tab. Our Professional Services team will review them and provide a service estimate.

Once your Account Owner approves the service, a project associate will be assigned to your company. They will work with you to review and upload the data to your account.

What information is available for importing?

Our project associates can import the following information:

  • Personal, Job, and Notes tabs
  • Emergency contacts
  • Basic candidate data (resumes not available for importing)
  • Benefit and dependent data (current calendar year only)
  • Training tab, including completed trainings
  • Time off balances, policy assignments, and requests (current calendar year only)
  • Inactive employees (initial and tabular data only)
    • Benefits and Time Off imports are only available for active employees.
  • Custom fields and tables

What is the rate for importing services?

Importing services are charged at a $200 per hour rate. Our Professional Services team will review your templates and provide you with a quote for the service. 

Full Admin users can import data into BambooHR. If you choose to do the imports yourself, our Support team is available to assist with any questions or errors.  


FAQ

Where do I download the templates?

Templates will be shared with you upon request for service. You can also download a template from your BambooHR account from the importing tool. 

What if I want to do the imports myself?

If you would like to use our self-service importer, we have a step-by-step guide available called, Import Data into BambooHR. You can review this error guide if you run into any issues with your Import. If you need additional assistance with the import, please contact our support heroes, who can assist you with any errors. Grab a screenshot of the error screen and upload your template to your Files tab in BambooHR to help them troubleshoot. 

How long does it take to import data?

The turnaround time for importing services varies depending on demand and the size of your import. Typically, once payment is received your data is imported and available in your account within 3-5 business days. Your Professional Services Specialist will let you know if your import will have a different timeline. 

I have my templates ready. Where do I upload them for BambooHR to review?

Please upload your completed templates to your BambooHR account’s Files tab. Your professional services specialist will add an “Information for BambooHR” folder to your account if you do not already have one. You can also add this folder to your account. 

To upload a new file, navigate to the Files tab and click Upload File.

Do not email completed employee data templates to Support or your professional services specialist. To ensure data security, templates submitted by email or other methods will not be accepted.

What information is required to perform an import?

The Employee # column must be completed on the template for us to import information. The Employee # is the unique identifier for the employee and applies to importing data into BambooHR.

If the employees to be imported are not in BambooHR yet, either active or inactive/terminated, we will need an "Initial Data" template completed to add their profiles for you. 

What if we made an import error? Can your project associate fix it? 

In most cases, yes. First, submit a support request detailing the issue. Depending on the error, tables may need to be reset to import the correct information. Our Support team will assist and collaborate with our professional services specialists to resolve the issue.

What if I need to make changes to the data that I wanted imported into my account?

Changes to your templates after the importing request is reviewed may alter your quote and incur additional billing time.
